Nervous System: Lemon Balm and Lavender
During our current pandemic, many of us are struggling with stress and anxiety. This class is designed to help us learn about our nervous system and easy-to-find herbs that can help support it. We'll focus on lemon balm and lavender, but we'll also cover other nervine herbs such as chamomile, oats, and others. We'll also learn how to make herbal tinctures in this class, both the folk method and the weight-to-volume method - using both dried and fresh herbs. Herbal tinctures are alcohol extracts that are taken by the dropper, and are easy to take with you wherever you go - even on-board an airplane. Videos and Google documents will be sent to the email address used for payment. One Q&A session with Katrina via email is included. |
Integumentary System (Skin): Comfrey and Calendula
How is your skin doing with all of this hand washing? Are you in need of some soothing skin care? Join us for a fun and informative class about our body's largest organ: the skin! We'll learn about two common herbs that help to heal and soothe our skin: comfrey and calendula. We'll use these two plants in class to make our own infused herbal oils, and then use those oils to make a healing all-purpose herbal salve. Videos and Google documents will be sent to the email address used for payment. One Q&A session with Katrina via email is included. |
Crafting the Wild Series

CRAFTING THE WILD IS CURRENTLY ON HOLD: During May 2020, I sat in on a discussion with indigenous American herbalists and botanists, talking about ethical wildcrafting from an indigenous perspective. During this discussion, I listened to the words "if you are not indigenous to this land, please leave our native medicine and food plants for those who are". I am not an indigenous woman to this land: my family immigrated from Greece and Northern Europe to America. So, after much sitting and crying and a ton of "yeah, but..." I have decided to actually listen to our native peoples, and do what was requested of me as a non-native herbalist - stop harvesting native botanicals. This means that I will need to take some time to reconstruct the Crafting the Wild Series, and keep the focus on non-native and invasive plants. Stay tuned!
